Federalism

Federalism is that a government in which power is divided between state and national levels. The constitutional republic of America is set up using this model. The idea behind this form of government is to provide an effective unified government that prevents the accumulation of political power at the national level by distributing among the states and the people who then elect their representatives. However, this form of government must be watched closely and the people must be educated in why it was established in this manner. Our Founders warned us that it would take constant vigilance to make sure we did not lose it to political scoundrels that would seek political power for their own selfish purposes. The concept for this form of government is traced back to the Old Testament where the Jews under Moses and later kings established a republic form of government in which the people elected their leaders.
